On the Moon
By Laura Hutcheson
Verse
Walking with Amy, a true friend
Yellow leaves, light up, the Aspen trees
Crossing the narrow wooden bridge
Water ripples over rocks below
Chorus
My heart was dancing on the moon
Dancing on the moon, dancing on the moon
Verse
The crunch of gravel under my boots
bluebird, takes flight, skims over the brush
The change of season, soft fall light
A new coolness awakens our skin
Chorus
Bridge:
What if I didn’t have this true friend
What if she never came back again
Verse
It never matters, what we say
Time is precious we are here, now
We cross the wooden bridge again
Me and my friend, on our way home
Chorus

My friend Annie Denver and I were hiking on the back trails near Aspen. A change of season from summer to fall put a spotlight on the rustic, bucolic path we walked on. It came to me how like the mountains a true friend like Annie can be – noble, steadfast, and beautiful.
